Some people may not even be aware there is an active film theatre inside the Detroit Institute of Arts. But there is! It's called the DIA Film Theatre (go see a film here if you haven't!). And it is quite stunning. I cannot believe I have never photographed this space before. I love that I am still finding new things to photograph in Detroit. I had just purchased a new 12mm Voigtlander prime lens for my Sony A7III camera, and I was ready to try it out. Most of these images were captured with it.

But there is not only the film theatre, but a cafe named the Crystal Gallery where you can purchase refreshments on the second floor. The room is spacious and the details are astounding.

Even the hallway is a joy to walk through (where even the water fountain is a piece of art!!).

The film theatre may not be as grand as the Fox Theatre or the Detroit Opera House, but it definitely should be considered one of Detroit's theatres to visit. This was taken from the balcony overlooking the main floor, and the one below is a 5-image panorama taken from the left side of the balcony.

I enjoyed capturing architectural details, such as the exit sign.

Lastly, we visited the stage looking out into the theatre seating. I attempted to get the whole theatre into one shot.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the DIA Film Theatre as much as I enjoyed photographing it! I've since been there to the Freep Film Festivals. Definitely worth a visit.
